Sega’s Judgment, developed by Ryu ga Gotoku Studio of Yakuza fame, has done pretty well in the West. Along with good critical acclaim, its sales performance has been “very good” according to Sega’s Daisuke Sato. Speaking to Spanish publication MeriStation (translation via ResetEra’s Lant_War), Sato said that it had “surpassed our expectations.”

“From our point of view, Judgment’s performance in the west has surpassed our expectations, they’re very good.” Even though Judgment is a spin-off of the Yakuza series and no sequels have really been discussed till now, is there a possibility of a follow-up? Sato responded that, “Us, as a team, would like to keep working on more games in the Judgment series.”

As such, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio is pretty busy. After Judgment, it’s working on bringing remasters of Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 to the West (Yakuza 3 Remaster is already available for PS4). Then there’s Shin Ryu ga Gotoku, the next Yakuza which stars a brand new protagonist in Ichiban Kasuga. More information will be revealed on August 29th thanks to a press conference that’s been scheduled.

If a sequel to Judgment is announced, it could be sometime down the line. In the meantime, check out our review for the game to see why it’s worth experiencing.
