The Coalition will be moving on from Gears of War 4 since Gears 5, its biggest game yet, is on the horizon. As a result, the game’s Ranked Season will be ending in January 2020. In a recent blog post, the developer thanked the community for their support.

“We’re incredibly proud of what Gears 4 achieved, and how our time together with the community over the past three years has shaped what Gears 5 has become. Thank you truly, deeply, for all your support since October 2016. It’s meant the world to us.

“With the vast majority of the game’s population moving to Gears 5, we will be removing all aspects of Ranked play from Gears 4.”

Instead of Ranked, Core and Competitive modes will be receiving new modes. The developer will also expand on the latency and skill rating settings with quit penalties being removed after Ranked is gone. This will be due to the likely low population. Furthermore, no new Events will be added to the game. Since some Achievements can only be earned in Events, an update will be released to allow for crafting the Midnight Omen and Flaming Weapon skins.

Finally, though it can’t 100 percent commit to this change, the developer wants to add a permanent XP boost to Gears of War 4. Servers will still remain online so we’ll see how that pans out. But overall, it appears to be all hands on deck for Gears 5.

Gears 5 is out on September 10th for Xbox One and PC. Xbox Game Ultimate and Ultimate Edition owners can access it on September 6th. You can pre-load the game now as well (though roughly 58 GB of space is needed on Xbox One).
