DOOM Eternal Developer Pledges Better Post-Launch Support Than DOOM (2016)

With new single player DLC, additions to Battle Mode, and more, id Software plans to keep delivering new content to players for a while.

DOOM (2016) was a shockingly successful attempt at revitalizing and modernizing a classic franchise, but there were plenty of things about it that still had room for improvement- things that developers id Software are looking to fix with the upcoming DOOM Eternal. One such thing is the game’s post-launch support, which the developers promise is going to be much better than it was for the previous game.

Speaking with the Official Xbox Magazine (issue 187), DOOM Eternal executive producer and co-director Marty Stratton said that id Software will be delivering a lot more new content to players for a lot longer after the game’s launch. With new Battle Mode content, new single player expansions, and more, id Software wishes to keep engaging players with more DOOM Eternal content than they were able to do with DOOM (2016), having jumped straight to the development of its sequel back then.

“Honestly, it’s through demand that we’re doing that,” said Stratton. “We see hundreds and hundreds of thousand players continuing to play Doom 2016, and we’ve got nothing [for them]. They’ve asked for more DLC, they’ve asked for more ways to play, and honestly we got straight into the development of Doom Eternal and haven’t given them anything.

“So I’m really excited about things like Master Levels, and the DLC that we have, new challenges that we’ll be offering on a monthly or weekly basis, we’ll be continuing to support Battle Mode, adding Invasion, we’ve got so much that we want to do post-launch, really giving players what they’ve been asking us for, coming back for more of the game, and giving them some more variety in that experience.”

DOOM Eternal is out on March 20 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Though the Switch version doesn’t yet have a release date, it’s apparently coming along very well. Meanwhile, it was recently also confirmed that the game won’t have any microtransactions- read more on that though here.
