Deep Silver’s announcement last year, just a few weeks before Metro Exodus’ release, that the shooter would be exclusive to the Epic Games Store and that the Steam release had been pushed back by a year was a controversial one. That said, in the long run, it doesn’t seem like it affected sales terribly, with the game having performed quite well on the Epic Games Store.

However, its year-long exclusivity to Epic’s storefront ended very recently, and the game finally became available on Steam as well. And in the early days of the game’s availability on the platform, it’s performed quite well. Speaking during the company’s recent earnings call, Lars Wingefors, CEO of the Embracer Group – the parent company of Metro Exodus publishers Deep Silver – said that the first person shooter has had a “great” launch on Steam.

Metro performed well on Epic and I was happy with the performance on the Epic Games Store,” Wingefors said, “but that doesn’t say I’m not happy with the Steam performance either, so it’s been great, the first days.”

“I think it’s just a great game,” he added. “People just love playing great games, and I hope it will continue to perform well over the coming years on all platforms.”

Metro Exodus is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Both its expansions – The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story – are also out. Meanwhile, 4A Games have already started working on the fourth game in the series, with Metro author (and writer of all the games) Dimitry Glukhovsky currently working on its story.
