Larian Studios and Baldur’s Gate 3 is a combination that quite a few people have been salivating over ever since the game’s announcement was made. The greatest cRPG developer in the industry right now making a sequel to one of the greatest cRPG properties of all time? Yes, please. Not surprisingly, anticipation for the game’s release has been quite high, and though there’s no word on when that release will be, it turns out Baldur’s Gate 3 will be made playable to the masses later this year thanks to an early access launch.

During an event for the investors at the New York Toy Fair (via Bell of Lost Souls), Hasbro – parent company of Wizards of the Coast, who, in turn, are the owners of the Dungeons & Dragons and Baldur’s Gate licenses – spoke about all that they have in the pipeline for D&D content in the coming few years. The company confirmed that they’d be releasing one D&D-based RPG every year up until 2025. More importantly though, they also stated that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be launching in early access later this year.

Larian’s previous game, the incredible Divinity: Original Sin 2, was also in early access for a whole year before its 1.0 launch, and gave players access to a chunk of the game’s story content. It proved to be a successful model for the game, and it’s not surprising that they are eyeing the same for Baldur’s Gate 3 as well. If they stick to that same timeline, that would mean that the game would be out some time in 2021- though that, of course, isn’t something that’s been officially confirmed in any capacity.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently confirmed for a launch on PC and Stadia. Larian are calling it the biggest RPG they’ve ever made, which is really saying something. They will be doing a full-fledged gameplay reveal for the title at PAX East on February 27.
