The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has affected the industry in a number of ways, not the least of which includes game development. While Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake seems to be safe from any delays, the publisher did note that shortages for the physical edition are looking “increasingly likely.” Over on Twitter, it stated that, “With unforeseeable changes in the distribution and retail landscape, which varies across countries, it is increasingly likely that some of you will not get hold of your copy of the game on the release date.”

The game’s global release is still going ahead so those who purchased the remake digitally don’t have to worry. As for those who purchased the physical edition, “We are monitoring the situation on a daily basis and working with our partners, retailers, and Square Enix teams across Europe and the Americas to do everything we can to ensure as many of you as possible can play the game on April 10.” Further news has been promised for tomorrow so stay tuned.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was initially intended to release this month but saw a delay to April 10th for the sake of more polish. It’s since received a free demo and Square Enix has been forthcoming with new details on characters, locations and so on. You can also check out the first episode of “Inside Final Fantasy 7 Remake” which covers development behind the scenes. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
