Microsoft’s Xbox Series X first party showcase has been confirmed for July 23, and it is expected that they will be unveiling several new games from their comprehensive first party lineup. One game many are hoping will be revealed at the studio is the debut title by The Initiative, the new studio that was started from scratch in 2018, and sure enough, recent rumours have suggested that Microsoft will indeed be unveiling the game later this month.
However, a new report by GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb says that that won’t be the case after all. In his report, Grubb acknowledges the recent rumours, but states that the game won’t be revealed just yet. As Grubb points out, The Initiative was built up from scratch in 2018, and spent much of 2019 building up its team, which means proper development on the game probably didn’t begin until not terribly long ago- and with a debut next-gen project for a major new studio, that doesn’t seem like nearly enough time for the game to be ready enough to be shown off just yet.
There’s no guarantees about what will or won’t happen, of course, at least until we actually see the show for ourselves, but tempering your expectations will probably be a smart idea.
Rumours have suggested that the game The Initiative are working on is a Perfect Dark revival, with Xbox boss Phil Spencer also seemingly having teased that the studio is working with one of Microsoft’ legacy IP.
