Capcom’s Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 are considered to be the games that brought the series back to its glory days. And with all three games are top sellers for the Japanese company 2 with Resident Evil 2 selling 9.3 million units, Resident Evil 3 selling over 5 million units, and Resident Evil 7 selling 10.6 million units – it isn’t a surprise that Capcom plans on capitalizing on that to bring them to even wider audiences.

Through a couple of tweets on the official Resident Evil Twitter, Capcom recently confirmed that Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 are coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles later this year, with each sporting visual enhancements. All three games will feature ray-tracing support, higher frame rates, and 3D audio, while the PS5 versions will also implement the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. No date has been confirmed for the release, however.

Capcom also confirmed that players who own any of these games on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be eligible for a free digital upgrade, alongside a free patch on PC, which will be launched when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions launch.

With the three aforementioned games enjoying enduring success and popularity even now, it’s not surprising to see Capcom taking the decision to upgrade them for more powerful hardware, though it will be interesting to see exactly how significantly these upgrades are. As or the future of the franchise, a Resident Evil 4 remake has been rumoured to be in development for some time, but it remains to be seen exactly when Capcom will choose to officially announce it.
