Ubisoft Singapore’s long-delayed Skull and Bones finally received a release date and gameplay reveal yesterday, showcasing its take on piracy and naval combat. Of course, since this is a live service title, there will also be post-launch content. Quest director Terry Han said in the live stream that there would be fresh new content “not just in the coming months but for many years to come.” And it will all be free.

Said content ranges from in-game world events and deadlier challenges that groups can tackle to smaller themed events, ships, weapons, furniture and much more. In terms of challenges, players can expect to “not just engage with the local factions but also with big corporations like the Compagnie Royale who has really strong bombard weapons so you need to watch out for that.

“Aside from that, you also work with kingpins to smuggle and steal valuable cargos, or even go on a raid with your friends to a nearby settlement or fort. Or even engage with dynamic events where you can board merchant ships stealing valuable cargos along the trade routes,” says Han. Much of this sounds like it’s coming with the base game at launch but perhaps we’ll see variations on these event types as part of the post-launch content. We’ll need to stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Skull and Bones releases on November 8th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC (via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store), Google Stadia and Amazon Luna. It will retail for $60 on PC and $70 on consoles.
