Call of Duty 2024 Will Have 2-Year Lifecycle – Rumor

Activision is reportedly "hedging their bets" on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 selling well and on the COD 2.0 infrastructure.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Season One

When a new Call of Duty title releases, it’s usually expected to receive one year of post-launch support. It’s the typical life-cycle, but several games have challenged that in the past. Call of Duty 2024, which Treyarch is reportedly working on, is another title that could seemingly break that pattern with a two year lifecycle.

The news comes from The Ghost of Hope on Twitter, who recently reported on a paid map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 coming in late 2023 (which will also apparently includes campaign DLC). They said, “Treyarch have had their budgets approved for a 2 year lifecycle on their next installment as part of Activision | Blizzard’s 3 year budget cycle.” Activision is reportedly “hedging their bets” on Modern Warfare 2 performing well financially, along with the infrastructure of COD 2.0 (based on the new unified Call of Duty engine).

Hope says they’ve been “holding onto this news since end of August or so because I wanted to get it corroborated more than my other stuff cause it’s higher level.”

As such, there’s been plenty of reports and rumors on Call of Duty’s future. Sledgehammer Games is reportedly working on a new title that will release in 2025. It was initially reported to be a sequel to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but that’s apparently not the case. At this point, it’s hard to say what the studio’s next Call of Duty title could be.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 goes live on November 16th.
