Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake had a strong showing at the recent Silent Hill Transmission, with its sound design and presentation praised even amid frame rate issues. While it remains faithful to the original, some staff members who worked on the original game, like monster designer Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka, were looking for more changes.

As series producer Motoi Okamoto told Famitsu (translation via Automaton-Media), “Game creators don’t want to make the same thing twice. I think that as the original creators, they had many parts they wanted to change.”

On the other hand, Bloober Team wanted a more faithful remake. “It was thanks to the opinions of Bloober Team, who are huge fans of the original game, that the remake is highly faithful to the original.” This means fewer UI screens and more immersive exploration, like James taking out a map instead of the map being a separate screen.

Of course, there have been updates to the combat, such as new actions and attacks from enemies and “slightly altered” dialogue. The goal is to ensure the remake stays faithful to the setting and story, even while offering a more modern approach.

Silent Hill 2 launches on October 8th for PS5 and PC. Pre-orders are available now, with Deluxe Edition owners getting 48 hours of early access. Check out our feature for more details on the title.
