Developer CD Projekt RED has been going quite all-out with its celebration of a decade since the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In a recent episode of the studio’s AnsweRED podcast, co-CEO Adam Badowski showed up, talking about the future of the Witcher franchise, and how the studio plans to keep things fresh going forward.

“At the very beginning of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we decided to combine those two things: water and fire,” Badowski said. “We would like to continue with this approach with all our next games.”

Badowski went on to talk about how CD Projekt RED wants to avoid making mistakes by chasing its own tail with future games. He said that the studio wants to make sure that there is something new with every new The Witcher game, and how it doesn’t want to copy its own tricks and grow complacent.

“We have to add something that changes the consensus,” said Badowski. “We don’t want to copy our own tricks all over again and again. So every game should consist [of] something new.”

Further in the podcast, Badowski, along with studio co-founder Marcin Iwiński also spoke about what CD Projekt RED had learned from its time working on The Witcher 3. Badowski said that he wants to hang on to his feeling of “ignorance is bliss,” because if the studio doesn’t know that one of its ideas might be challenging, it won’t shy away from the challenge.

CD Projekt RED had announced just last week that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be getting one last update to cap off the title’s decade of killing monsters. The update, slated for release later, will bring with it mod cross-platform mod support across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we’re excited to share some good news for our players and modders,” wrote the studio on its official website. “Later this year, we will release one more patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This update will introduce cross-platform mod support across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S via mod.io.”

In order to be able to share mods between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be making use of Mod.io as its modding platform. It is worth noting that PC players can continue to make use of other modding platforms, such as Nexus Mods. However, unless the mods are brought over to Mod.io, they will continue to be available exclusively on PC.

The studio also revealed in May that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had sold more than 60 million copies worldwide across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. This sales milestone includes the base game, as well as its Game of the Year Edition, while not including the Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine DLC expansions.

CD Projekt RED is currently working on a sequel – appropriately titled The Witcher 4 – for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
