Death Stranding 2 On the Beach

While the developers at Kojima Productions will be taking a bit of a break once they are done with the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26, director Hideo Kojima has revealed through a recent episode of his radio show that he has already begun working on the studio’s next project. As caught by X user Genki_JPN, Kojima spoke about how others dislike it when he starts submit project plans so early.

“I am already working on the next one now,” said Kojima. “Just me. Everyone dislikes it when I submit the project plans at this point in time. They are like ‘Huh?, I thought you are taking a break. But you’re talking about the next one.’”

Kojima also spoke about the fact that the studio will continue to support Death Stranding 2: On the Beach with post-launch updates after the developers are done with their breaks. 3D modellers will also be getting back to work, since they will have to work on an art book, which means that they will have to start working on character, boss and weapon renders, among other things.

Since there are no plans for post-launch DLCs for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, however, the studio will likely get to take some form of a break. Kojima had previosuly said that, while there will be updates for bug fixes, he sees post-launch episodic DLC releases as something that “isn’t really the trend anymore.”

“As for DLC – right now, there aren’t any plans,” said Kojima. “That kind of thing isn’t really the trend anymore, is it? I’m not sure though. Before, we used to add stuff post-launch pretty regularly. But now – maybe there will be something like that. After the release at the end of June, if any bug pops up – we’ll fix them. We’ll keep improving the game. We might even create something that didn’t exist at all in the first game. Who knows. I can’t say for sure right now.”

Kojima also revealed that there were originally plans to feature more dynamic and customisable hair for protagonist Sam Porter Bridges. On his radio show, he spoke about how the technology was developed to have Sam’s hair grow out in real time, and how players would also get the option to change the colour of his hair. Ultimately, however, these plans were scrapped.

Leading up to the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima Productions has announced that it will be hosting its own Game Premiere event on June 8. The event, slated to go live at 7 PM PT, will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, and will also feature a panel with Kojima and other “special guests”. The event is also expected to be where we also get to see the final launch trailer for the game.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is slated to be coming exclusively to the PS5. However, going by the studio’s track record, we might also see it make its way to PC eventually. After this title, Kojima Productions will be working on two other games – OD and Physint.
