Doubling down on what the studio has previously said about its plans to offer long-term support for Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani spoke about how it doesn’t have current plans to start working on a sequel. Speaking on the official Discord server for Helldivers 2 (via GamesRadar), Jorjani said that “HD3 is hopefully many years away.”
“Honestly I’m very bought into the vision that Micke, Felix, Niklas and Marre (our game directors) and Johan have for the game,” said Jorjani, responding to a question about a potential sequel. “It’s great to be part of the ride. We honestly are focusing on the here and now. HD3 is hopefully many years away.”
Jorjani’s words mirror what was previously said by community manager Katherine Baskin earlier this month. When asked about what the studio has planned for Helldivers 2, Baskin responded on the Discord by saying that “I know what’s coming for Helldivers for the next few years.”
“It’s important that I know, so I can help develop and engage the community alongside whatever we’re doing,” she continued, while also saying that plans are “subject to change”.
Since the release of Helldivers 2 last year, Arrowhead Game Studios has continued supporting the title through the release of several free updates, as well as paid content in the form of Premium Warbonds. The most recent one of these—Control Group—was released just last week, and brought weapons based on “alien” tech to the game.
As the studio continues to work on the game, it is also getting ready to bring the co-op shooter to Xbox Series X/S on August 26. Priced at $39.99 for the standard edition and $59.99 for the Super Citizen Edition, the Xbox Series X/S release of Helldivers 2 will also be able to play with players on PC and PS5 thanks to cross-platform multiplayer.
Speaking of the Super Citizen Edition, Arrowhead also announced earlier this month that it is doing away with the edition’s inclusion of the Steeled Veterans Premium Warbond. Instead, the Super Citizen Edition will now include a Warbond Token which allows players to pick any of the available Premium Warbonds they might want rather than being stuck with just Steeled Veterans.
“Prior to now players could accidentally double up purchases on the ‘Steeled Veterans Warbond’ in the game and with the Super Citizen Edition Upgrade,” explained the studio in its announcement.. “We never want players to buy things twice and not get the value of what they paid for!”
Further in its announcement, Arrowhead also confirmed that it has no plans to make Warbond Tokens a separately purchasable item. “There are no plans for the Warbond Token to exist as a standalone product,” wrote the studio. “Players will still be able to access and purchase any Premium Warbond within the game as it has been to date.”
