The journey of a Shogun in any Nioh game is never easy, and in Nioh 3, you’ll experience it first-hand as Tokugawa Takechiyo. After betrayal by his brother, Kunimatsu, Takechiyo travels through time to purify the demonic Crucibles that emerge across various eras. To illustrate what that’s like, Koei Tecmo has released a staggering 17-minute gameplay overview video.

It starts in the same region as the alpha demo but quickly expands to other areas, including the Heien Era, which is covered in ice, and the Bakumatsu. As players venture to each Crucible, they’ll take on fallen heroes corrupted by the darkness. Defeating them is key to purifying the structures, but it will require some preparation. Fortunately, the surrounding areas are full of fiends to conquer, loot to discover, and buffs to acquire.

The gameplay is also the perfect showcase of Nioh 3’s dual combat styles, as you seamlessly switch between Samurai for close-combat and Ninja for ninjutsu and, of course, the Izuna Drop. Some especially useful techniques include the ability to submerge underground and pop back up, which is great for either dodging or getting the drop on foes.

You’ll need all the help you can get when Nioh 3 launches on February 6th for PS5 and PC – head here for everything you should know. In the meantime, a free demo will become available for both platforms on January 29th with co-op support. Save data can also be transferred over to the game, allowing for a head start.
