Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Official Title is Locked, Says Director

Two options were available, but Naoki Hamaguchi reveals that after Paris Games Week, Tetsuya Nomura has indeed chosen one.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

The third and final part in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga still doesn’t have a release date, but Square Enix is certainly inching closer to an announcement. Last month, director Naoki Hamaguchi and creative director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that they had narrowed the list down to two choices. And then there was one.

“I remember an interview I did at Paris Games Week about how we’d narrowed it down to two,” Hamaguchi told GameSpot, “It was up to Mr Nomura to decide which it is. And yes, after returning from Paris Games Week, he did choose one, so I can say the title has been locked.”

Granted, a reveal date – which was apparently decided some time back, according to Nomura – is still pending. However, as of last month, Hamaguchi confirmed that the “core game experience” was nearly complete, and later commented how the game is “finally starting to match” his vision. As usual, the wait continues, but the year is still young, and there are so many showcases where it could potentially appear.

In the meantime, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is out now on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. Regardless of which you opt for, they’re both well optimized, though you can try a free hands-on demo for yourself to confirm. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth doesn’t have a release date for either platform, but it’s targeting this year.

Hamaguchi also noted that Switch 2 port development had begun, lending further credence to a 2026 release. Interestingly, he confirmed the same for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 as well. A sign, however small, of a potential reveal this year? We can always hope, so stay tuned for more details.
