What’s a great way to show you what a solid title can do? Well, put it in the hands of some pro players and let them take it for a spin, of course.

That’s just what id Software has done with the Revelations DLC for DOOM: The Dark Ages, and the result is a close look at that deadly Chain Spear, alongside an overview of how the new upgrade system is going to expand on the already extensive set of options you bring to every fight. Of course, it’s the Chain Spear that has our attention, and it’s such a versatile addition to the Slayer’s arsenal that it feels like such a natural part of his moveset and combat.

It parries specific attacks, sending projectiles back at the enemy who fired them. It latches onto enemies, allowing you to control your proximity to them, or perhaps use them to get airborne and rain down destruction from above with a very potent ground slam. You could use it to skewer enemies with brutal finishers or channel the elements with varying devastating effects.

This is a weapon that we’re sure is going to be a satisfying part of the new content long into the dedicated endgame. Lofty ambitions, to be sure, but anything’s in reach when there’s a Chain Spear involved. You can see it in action for yourself below and marvel at its effectiveness.
