In Take-Two Interactive’s latest financial report, CEO Strauss Zelnick has celebrated the revenue generated by the company’s various releases, including the NBA 2K franchise, and has said that the positive cash flow provides more opportunities for the company to acquire more studios. In a letter to shareholders, Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two had generated $6.72 billion in net bookings, which is around $750 million higher than initial expectations.

“Each of our labels exceeded our initial expectations – NBA 2K delivered record Net bookings and recurrent consumer spending; Zynga achieved its highest level of Net Bookings since we acquired the business in 2022; and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series continued to drive significant Net Bookings and deep engagement with its passionate community of players.”

Looking to the future, Zelnick has said that the coming fiscal year will be an exciting time for Take-Two Interactive thanks to the industry-shaking upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November. Generally speaking, he expects the company to have more than $1 billion in cash flow, which will give it the option to “pursue accretive M&A (mergers and acquisitions) opportunities. Whether this means that Take-Two Interactive already has potential acquisitions lined up will only become evident over the course of the year.

“We are excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead – for our players, our Company, and our shareholders. Fiscal year 2027 has the potential to be a major inflection point for our Company, defined by groundbreaking entertainment experiences – led by the planned November 19th release of Grand Theft Auto 6 – creative and operational excellence, and record Net Bookings. Backed by our flexible balance sheet and expected operating cash flow of more than $1 billion this fiscal year, we are positioned to realize the creative and commercial potential of our franchises, pursue accretive M&A opportunities, and invest in technology that will unlock greater creative capabilities and operational efficiencies across our organization.”

With pre-orders having opened up last month, Grand Theft Auto 6 is already expected to be a record-shattering launch. Analysis firm Newzoo, for instance, has estimated that digital sales in the US and the “top five European markets” have already generated $180 million. Factoring in other regions brings up this estimation to around $260 million. Going further, the firm believes that GTA 6 might be on pace to have “the strongest pre-order campaign ever recorded” with potential sales valued at between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in the game’s launch week.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is being developed for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and is priced at $80 for the standard edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition. The latter will include a host of in-game goodies, including special stores that offer unique customization options. While official pre-order numbers haven’t yet been revealed, a glance at the PlayStation Store indicates that it is already topping sales charts in just about every region, with the Ultimate Edition seemingly being the more popular option. Microsoft has also said that it is seeing “record” pre-orders for the game on its own platforms.
