After selling seven million copies in under two months, Resident Evil Requiem has achieved a new milestone. It has sold over eight million units as of July 30th, according to Capcom’s latest consolidated financial results for the fiscal quarter.
This seemingly ensures the sequel’s status as the fastest-selling entry in the series. Besides almost universal acclaim from critics, it became the franchise’s biggest launch on Steam. Maybe it’s the mix of survival horror and action horror, with players also able to seamlessly switch between first and third-person perspectives.
Perhaps it’s also due to the return of Leon S. Kennedy, who hasn’t been playable since Resident Evil 6. The return of Raccoon City and resolution of lingering plot threads also certainly helped, as you can learn more about in our review, where we scored it a 9 out of 10.
As always, however, this isn’t the end of Requiem by a long shot. Capcom already confirmed a story expansion is in the works, and though a release date remains unknown, it’s seemingly arriving after 2027’s Resident Evil Veronica.
The apparent reason is that the publisher wants to devote more significant time to its expansions to fill the gap between major releases. It shouldn’t be surprising, then, that Resident Evil Veronica is also allegedly getting an expansion, though nothing has been officially announced.
