CD Projekt RED wasn’t keen to reveal everything surrounding The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next expansion, Songs of the Past, at Opening Night Live, but the teaser trailer is certainly a thing of beauty. Set in the new region of Letten, Geralt partakes in a seemingly serene festival…which usually means trouble is brewing.
Besides new monsters, including a mutated warrior, there are also secrets and a “truth” to uncover. Whatever that may be, he’ll have a new weapon – a chain similar to the one wielded by Ciri in The Witcher 4, which can pull enemies close for a quick beheading. It’s an intriguing addition and should provide a teaser for what it can do in the sequel.
Available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 next year, Songs of the Past promises an expansion-level experience on par with CD Projekt RED’s best (at least in terms of scale). Though CD Projekt RED leads the project, much of its 190-strong development team hails from Fool’s Theory, which is also working on a remake of The Witcher 1.
You can expect to see much more of Songs of the Past throughout Gamescom, especially with the developer hosting daily REDstreams until August 30th.
