Gamescom Opening Night Live has its share of trailers and reveals, but how many of them featured The Prodigy’s “Omen” set to paranatural action? The answer is one: Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant. It’s a slick montage of Dylan Faden hacking and slashing across Manhattan, fighting Hiss, Mold and what have you, on a journey to save it.

Throughout it all, we see the Aberrant’s different forms, from dual blades to a massive hammer that can stagger even the largest foes. What really stands out is the different environments. Besides exploring the Metro Fault, you’ll be drawn into ethereal realms and attempting to survive. Or unravel answers. Perhaps a mix of both.

Control Resonant launches on September 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Set seven years after the first game, it offers more freedom to explore the world as you see fit – even the Resonants can be tackled in pretty much any order.

Remedy teases that your decisions will have weight. If the influences of the Southern Reach Trilogy, Roadside Picnic and more are any indication, it could mean mixed news for the fate of the world. But at least we get to see Jesse again, even if she’s not playable.
