With NBA 2K27 having come out just last month, 2K Sports and Take-Two Interactive have announced that they are pulling the plug on the servers for NBA 2K25. The online services for NBA 2K25 will go offline on December 31st, with the company noting that none of the online multiplayer game modes will be available starting from January 1st, 2027. NBA 2K25 will also be delisted from all digital storefronts on October 30th.
Among the game modes to be affected by the servers going down are MyCareer and MyTeam, and it will also no longer be possible to earn any Virtual Currency. Other modes like Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA will still be playable. However, the company has said that “any features that require a connection to 2K servers will be unavailable. This includes multiplayer, Online Leagues, and community sharing.”
NBA 2K25 was released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on September 6th, 2024. At the time, we praised the basketball game for its presentation, production values, commentary, player animations, The City, and MyCareer. However, we criticized the fact that blocking felt underpowered and ineffective, as well as its aggressive and shady monetization that could often be considered blatantly pay-to-win. Ultimately, we gave it a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its inclusion of enjoyable content and notable gameplay improvements.
The latest entry in the franchise is NBA 2K27, which was released across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4th. The title included plenty of improvements over its predecessor – NBA 2K26 – including the inclusion of Step-Through Up-And-Unders, more experimental dribbling customization, a dynamic Layup Engine, and advanced controls, among other things.
In our review, we gave NBA 2K27 a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its Fire & Concrete story being surprisingly deep and a host of gameplay refinements across the board, along with a streamlined version of MyTeam. Our only complaints were that the monetization practices have continued unabated, and that the MyCareer mode has a slow start.
NBA 2K27 is available in three editions – Standard, Deluxe, and Ultra. The Standard Edition, priced at $69.99, just includes the game. Spending an additional $30 on the Deluxe Edition gets you some in-game goodies, including 100,00 VC, a host of skill boosts and Gatorade boosts, as well as a double-XP coin for MyCareer. The Ultra Edition features all of this, along with an additional 35,000 VC, access to the first Pro Pass, and other in-game items. It is priced at $149.99.

If you’re still interested in checking out an older entry, take a look at our review of NBA 2K26. We gave it a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its production values across factors like smooth gameplay and beautiful visuals. However, we found plenty to complain about regarding the lack of content for game modes outside of MyCareer, as well as the never-ending presence of microtransactions.
