Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Laufey has been delayed to May 20th, 2027. Previously set for February 16th, the developer said it will “make the most of each moment” until the new release date by “putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.”
Announced last June during State of Play, Laufey focuses on Kratos’ wife, Faye, as she navigates the Everywhen, a realm where various mythologies collide, after seemingly passing away. After encountering Begtse and Sekhmet, she breaks free of their imprisonment with help from Phranque, the Cosmic Cube, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian for a mysterious sword.
Ultimately, she seeks to return home to Kratos and Atreus. As a hack-and-slash title fusing the gameplay of the old and new God of War titles, Laufey incorporates air combos, ranged abilities (including the recently revealed Serpent Bow) and magic into devious combos. Of course, like the contemporary titles, she can also equip armor sets with different perks and unlock various skills.
Aside from further polishing the experience, the delay may be to avoid a crowded February release window. That includes Metro 2039, Fable, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Final Fantasy 14: Evercold, and more. For more details on what to expect, check out our feature.
