After the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has been slowly offering more details on its various mechanics, including stealth and combat. However, the development team recently held an AMA on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit and revealed new information on the game’s length, specifically how long the “main journey” will be.
“The length of the game is always hard to evaluate in an open-world game as different players will have very different ways to consume the content. I think Shadows’ main journey is comparable to Origins/Odyssey and Valhalla. As for choices, they are present, and some have an impact but play less of a branching role than on Odyssey on the core narrative,” said creative director Jonathan Dumont.
You probably recall him saying that the scale of the world is “comparable a little bit more to the size of Assassin’s Creed Origins” with a focus on “real-life scale ratio.” Associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois later added that it’s “smaller than Valhalla in terms of territory.” Things get tricky when comparing the main story length to previous entries.
HowLongToBeat reveals that the main story of Assassin’s Creed Origins takes 30 hours to beat on average. However, Odyssey requires 45.5 hours, while Valhalla requires a whopping 60 hours. The structure of Shadows may make it so that some players require less time than others, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on February 14th, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It won’t have advanced access or a Season Pass, with pre-orders receiving its first expansion for free.
