The upcoming action title is only the beginning of a larger story (or so PlatinumGames hopes).

It looks like PlatinumGames are setting a larger story into motion with the upcoming Switch exclusive action title, Astral ChainThe game is envisioned as the first instalment in a larger story- but sequels, it seems, aren’t guaranteed either.

Speaking in an interview with IGN Benelux, director Takahisa Taura, when asked about the studio’s plans for post-launch support for the game, confirmed that PlatinumGames has no plans for adding new content in form of DLC- but that doesn’t mean that that’s it for Astral Chain. Taura confirmed that the story of Astral Chain is supposed to continue beyond the first game with two intended sequels.

That said, Taura also made it clear that though that is very much what PlatinumGames are planning on and hoping for, a trilogy isn’t something that’s set in stone just yet. Instead, whether or not Astral Chain receives sequels is something that will depend on how well the upcoming first game sells.

Astral Chain has looked excellent in all that we’ve seen of it so far, and if the final product ends up being as good as all its pre-release marketing is suggesting, then I’m sure a sequel will be in high demand- let’s just hope that demand is backed up by sales for the game itself as well, though. Take a look at an extended gameplay demo through here.

Astral Chain is due out on August 30 for the Nintendo Switch. During development, it seems like PlatinumGames have changed up quite a few things, from how many Legions players will be able to control, to even what the setting will be. Here’s hoping all those changes have been for the best.
