It’s no secret that Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant became it’s fastest-selling title ever after selling over one million copies last month. However, a new Business Review revealed a 226 percent revenue increase for the company by the end of September.
During this period, the company recorded EUR 39.6 million. CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon noted that this is Remedy’s first self-published title “of this scale,” and that it “marks a defining milestone for the company” following praise from critics and players.
“The majority of the quarter’s total revenue came from game sales and royalties, which amounted to EUR 35.3 (6.0) million.” By comparison, development fees for Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake, and “final development fee accrual” in its agreement with Annapurna Pictures for Control Resonant totaled EUR 4.3 (6.1) million.
“As a self-publisher, we carry royalty expenses and platform fees directly. Our royalty expenses consist of Annapurna’s share of Control Resonant game revenue. As announced in August 2024, these royalty expenses will decrease once the initial investments have been recouped.”
Gaudechon also revealed that the United States ranked as Resonant’s biggest market on PC and consoles in revenue and unit sales at nearly 50 percent. Almost 50 percent of players were new to the franchise, and with wishlists at 2.4 million, Remedy believes it has a “substantial potential audience for the future.” It’s currently focused on getting the sequel into more hands.
While its other projects are “proceeding in the pipeline,” the original Control’s sales were fairly strong in the third quarter, exceeding the previous two combined. With over six million copies sold, the 2019 action-adventure is proving to be an evergreen hit for Remedy.
