Riding a wave of momentum from the console’s price, lack of restrictions on used games and absence of region-locking or DRM, the PlayStation 4’s pre-order numbers began to soar and Sony stated that they were up from the previous generation. This was the time when Sony began to reveal that pre-orders had actually exceeded 1 million units and counting. But the main point was that the launch of the PS4 would be at a “level never seen before”. Keep in mind that the PS3 was coming off of the highly successful PS2 and faced a mega amount of hype despite having neither the games nor the value for money to live up to it, and you’ll start to get an idea of just how big the PS4’s launch will be.
