77. Microsoft reveals that decision to turn Xbox One units into dev kits was decided two years prior.
While we have doubts as to whether ID@Xbox was indeed planned a long time ago, there’s no doubting that the decision to allow retail units to function as dev kits with a special code had to have been in place since the beginning. According to Microsoft Studios Partner creative director Ken Lobb, it was actually decided two years ago. Given that the ability to have a retail unit convert into a dev kit so easily will actually benefit developers and studios the world over, we’ll give Microsoft some credit for this move.
