If you are tech freak then you would understand the importance a faster memory. The GDDR5 which is capable of 176GB/s bandwidth, is incredibly fast and efficient. Mark Cerny did however thought about an alternative memory which is the GDDR5 memory with 88GB/s bandwidth along with a small amount of eDRAM which had a bandwidth of 1000 GB/s. This would bring the total bandwidth to 1088 GB/s but created a lot of complexities. Cerny eventually opted for a unified memory.
