Team Ninja’s upcoming Dead or Alive 6 will have a free to play version after the base game launches. This will be similar to Dead or Alive 5, which had a Core Fighters version that only featured a handful of fighters. Director Yohei Shimbori recently addressed rumours of a Dead or Alive 6 Core Fighters after a listing for the same appeared on the Microsoft Store (and has since been removed).

Speaking to Siliconera, Shimbori said, “First of all, about the listing on the Microsoft Store, that was a mistake from the development team. We do have plans to make a free-to-play version, but we haven’t announced when it will be available. We can promise it will be out post-launch of the full game. We can’t talk about it yet since we don’t have concrete details about what will be included yet. But, it will be similar to what we had with Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters.”

Dead or Alive 6 is slated to release on March 1st for Xbox One, PS4, and PC after being delayed from its initial February 15th release date. This was to assure more time had been spent on polish and balance. The game itself does a few things differently from previous entries, like Fatal Rush, which performs combos from pressing a single button multiple times.

Players can also perform powerful Critical Blow-like attacks after a Fatal Rush if the Break Gauge is full. Counters are still part of the game, including the Fatal Reversal, which causes the fighter to reverse their opponent before moving behind them. Dead or Alive 6 will have 25 playable fighters at launch, including newcomers like Diego and NiCO.
