While the June 26 release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is still some time away, director Hideo Kojima has revealed through a post on social media platform X that the studio has finally finished its sound mixing work with Molinare in London.

In his post, Kojima wrote about how Kojima Productions had worked with Molinare on the sound work for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for around three years. This work also included ADR, which would have also involved several of the game’s ovice actors.

“Finished sound mixing with Molinare in London,” posted Kojima. “A total of about 3 years, including ADR. Thank you very much. A light toast with our sound team and the folks at Molinare.”

Kojima has been providing quite a few updates on the development of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach through social media posts. He has spent quite a bit of time also talking about working with various voice actors on the sound mixing and ADR that goes into making a game of this scale.

Back in February, Kojima wrote about how the studio had wrapped up the sound recording work for an important scene from the game that involved six Japanese voice actors. The scene in question features Kenjiro Tsuda, Nana Mizuki, Tomokazu Sugita, Shion Wakayama, Akihiko Ishizumi, and Mitsuru Miyamoto.

“Today’s Japanese voice recording. It was for an important scene with six people at the same time,” posted Kojima back in February. “And with that, it was a wrap for Kenjiro Tsuda, Nana Mizuki, Tomokazu Sugita, Shion Wakayama, Akihiko Ishizumi, and Mitsuru Miyamoto. It’s been 10 months since the first recording. As Happy as I am, it also makes me quite sad.”

The release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was announced through a special panel at SXSW 2025 earlier this month. During the panel, the release date was announced alongside a lengthy trailer that gave us a look at several of the game’s story beats, as well as characters, including fan-favourite character from Death Stranding, Higgs.

During the panel, Kojima spoke about scenes with Higgs, and how things are going to get even more ridiculous with the character than they were in the previous title. He also pre-emptively apologised to players potentially throwing their controller away at the ridiculousness.

“Higgs is not like twice or thrice better – it’s 100 times better than Death Stranding 1,” said Kojima. “So at the end, you’re gonna watch Higgs and say, ‘What is this?’ And you’ll probably throw the controller, it’s so ridiculous. I’ll apologize beforehand.”

One of the newer characters revealed through the trailer was Neil, who is being played by actor Luca Marinelli. In a separate post, Kojima wrote about how he came to learn about Marinelli, and how the two decided to work together after Marinelli told Kojima about his love for the Metal Gear franchise.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is currently in development for PS5. The game will also include asynchronous online multiplayer in a similar vein as what we saw in the original Death Stranding.
