Leading up to the June 26 release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on PS5, Kojima Productions and Sony have released a new video for the game offering players a recap of the events of the original Death Stranding. The video, which you can check out below, clocks in at just over 6 minutes in length, and offers up a brief summary of the events of the first game before they set forth in the upcoming sequel.

The original Death Stranding revolved around America being shattered as a country as a result of various aspects plaguing the world, from potentially dangerous BTs to even a single corpse having the potential to ruin an entire city. Players take on the role of Sam Porter Bridges – a courier tasked with transporting the corpse of the US President to an incineration facility.

Along the way, however, things start going wrong, and Sam is ultimately tasked with making deliveries to the right people in order to reconnect America as a country. To do this, Sam can make use of a host of different tools and weaponry, from simple ladders and ropes to aid in climbing, to more advanced tools like vehicles, exosuits, and ziplines.

One of the game’s core features was the fact that players could make use of tools left behind by other players, and this collaboration could even extend as far as forging entire highway systems that could be used to make deliveries to dangerous places possible.

While the video reveals quite a few details about the main storyline of Death Stranding, quite a few things are still left hidden for players to discover by playing through the title itself. The video caps things off by taking us one year into the setting’s future, where Sam is seemingly setting out on a journey without the company of his BB – which he ended up adopting as his child by the end of Death Stranding – Lou.

The Story So Far video is a follow-up to a trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach that was released earlier this month. Rather than focusing on the story, however, the trailer instead gave us a brief overlook of the upcoming title’s various gameplay systems. It also gives us a look at how the world has changed since the events of the original Death Stranding thanks to excess Chiralium, and even natural disasters like earthquakes and floods.

Another trailer released earlier this month gave us a look at some more gameplay, this time around featuring Sam and Lou travelling through a mountain range in Mexico. The trailer also showed us how the game’s combat will work, especially when using stealth. Among the things showcased in the trailer were stealthy takedowns and even some gunplay, with weapons ranging from assault rifles to grenade launchers.

As you wait for the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach later this month, check out our thoughts on why it might just end up being one of the biggest games this year that other titles will have to beat.
