Hideo Kojima has revealed through a post on social media platform X that he is still working on the next trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The announcement comes after speculation that the new trailer would be revealed during Sony’s State of Play event this week. However, the event came and went, and a Death Stranding 2 trailer was nowhere to be seen.

“Editing,” posted Kojima in his brief X post, along with a few pictures. Unfortunately, the pictures don’t really reveal any new details about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Rather, the pictures just show us an editing timeline for what is likely the next trailer. The post also includes a picture of Kojima himself, holding up a bottle of a supplementary drink.

Kojima had previously teased the trailer for Death Stranding 2 with a short clip that gave us a look at what we could expect. The clip featured Fragile and Sam Porter having a conversation about meeting some face to face for the first time. At the time, Kojima had stated that the trailer was in the sound mixing stage.

In the meantime, Kojima has also been announcing that various actors have been wrapping up their parts on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, thanking them with their own bouquets. One such incident was Shioli Kutsuna, who had worked with Kojima on 3D scanning and performance capture, as well as English ADR and Japanese voice acting.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach doesn’t yet have a release date. It is, however, possible that the trailer Kojima has been teasing for a while now could also be telling us when the game will be coming out. The trailer might make its debut at a special panel announced by Sony and Kojima Productions for March 9. The panel will be part of SXSW 2025, and will include game director Hideo Kojima in some form. No other details about the panel have been revealed, however.

When it does come out, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is expected to pick up the story where its predecessor had originally left off. It will quite likely explore the influence Porter’s actions had on the overall world, which among other things also included travelling to the Beach itself. Players that might be unaware of the original’s story will also have the option to watch a recap video to catch up.

Back in January, Kojima revealed that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach had entered the “crunch” phase of game development. This essentially means that all hands at the studio are now on deck in order to get development work finished before internal deadlines. Kojima described it as “the most demanding period of game development—both physically and mentally.”
