Destiny 2 Cross-Platform Character Transfers Blocked by Sony – Rumour

Bungie was apparently interested, but Sony wouldn't allow it, according to reports.

Destiny 2 Season of the Drifter

Remember when Bungie’s Destiny 2 was set to launch for PC, just a few months after the console versions? One of the primary requests from players was the ability – if not at that point then somewhere down the line – to transfer characters from consoles to PC. Such a request would persist for many months, but it now seems like an impossibility.

According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier on the recent Splitscreen podcast, Bungie wanted to implement cross-platform character transfers before the Forsaken expansion launched last September. However, Sony wasn’t having it. The reason given was that it wanted players to associate the Destiny franchise with PS4.

It’s certainly not the most far-fetched reason, especially given the deal for timed exclusive content on PS4 and Sony’s marketing of the franchise till now. Neither Bungie or Sony commented on whether this was the case, but given Schreier’s reputation, the report certainly has some merit. As for whether Destiny 2 will ever have character transfers across platforms, we’ll have to wait and see in the coming years (especially given Sony’s reluctance on cross-platform features with non-PlayStation platforms).
