DOOM Eternal - Series One Cosmetic Pack

id Software’s DOOM Eternal has received its first two paid cosmetic packs – the DOOMicorn Master Collection Cosmetic Pack and the Series One Cosmetic Pack. The former includes the unicorn-themed skins, animations and podiums that were previously exclusive to Twitch for $4.99. The latter consists of character and weapon skins, player icons and so on that were available to unlock in the first season.

Though the DOOMicorn skin previously required Twitch Prime to obtain, the Series One cosmetics were completely free and became unavailable when Season 1 ended. The current approach is in contradiction to creative director Hugo Martin’s statements on Facebook last year. Martin had clarified that there was “no store” in the game and that, “Nothing you can unlock in Eternal with XP has anything to do with player abilities or content that would impact your game in any way. The only thing you can unlock with XP is COSMETICS. These cosmetics have no impact on how you play, they just look cool.

“Eternal is a $60 game, not a free to play game or mobile game – we are giving you a complete experience with no store just like you’d expect. Unlocking skins with XP is a part of the experience if you care about that stuff or you can completely ignore it and it will have no impact on your experience AT ALL and it’s all free.”

Many user reviews on Steam are also complaining about receiving the opposite pack’s contents upon purchasing. So if you purchase the DOOMicorn Master Collection set, you’ll receive the Series One cosmetics instead and vice versa. id Software hasn’t officially commented on the issue or its stance on paid cosmetics so we’ll have to wait for updates.

DOOM Eternal is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Stadia and Nintendo Switch. It recently received its second paid expansion, The Ancient Gods – Part 2, with more updates coming this year. Xbox Series X/S and PS5 updates are also currently in the works though no release window has been provided.
