Dragon Age The Veilguard

Following its extended gameplay reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has dropped several details about the upcoming RPG. We didn’t get to see too much from the combat since it was at an early point in the story, but a recent preview by Eurogamer has provided some new information.

As noted here, enemies have different resistances and weaknesses, and players will have a large skill tree with plenty of options. You can specialize in damaging specific foes or focus more on healing (with healing magic returning), among other choices. Game director Corinne Busche also confirmed that you can chain abilities together.

One example involves an ability to draw enemies together, then another to slow them, followed by an area-of-effect attack to nuke them. While the tactical pause helps players to carefully plan their moves, there are also shortcuts for abilities. The Ability Wheel in the above image also indicates combo opportunities, allied skills and what they do, and orders for allies to attack a target.

It’s also confirmed that each class has different resources. In the Rogue’s case, it’s Momentum. Keep landing hits, whether melee or ranged (including hip-fired shots), and it will build up.

While Warriors and Mages weren’t detailed, the former can perform a shield toss and build around that with the skill tree. Dragon Age: The Veilguard launches in Fall for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
