It’s no secret that Techland’s Dying Light 2 will be a massive experience. Though the emphasis seems to be on replay value, especially as players’ decisions can open up entire new regions, the overall amount of content is still pretty hefty. Lead game designer Tymon Smektala outlined this to Prankster 101 in a recent interview.
The main story can be completed in “15 to 20 hours” as per Smektala though he noted that this was “very hard to measure in an open-world game.” It ultimately comes down to how someone plays the game. “Emergencies” can also crop up in-game that will affect your playtime. “Things just happen as you play the game and you have to react to them.”
Overall though, there’s over 100 hours of content to sink one’s teeth into. “But it is 15 to 20 hours for the main story, because the whole content, I would say, is more than 100 hours,” says Smektala.
Dying Light 2 is out in Spring 2020 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It’s touted as being four times larger than its predecessor and despite the amount of content offered at launch, more will be coming. Smektala noted in the same interview that the first Dying Light received support four years after its release and the plan for the sequel is “exactly the same.”
