It’s been over a year since Techland released Dying Light: The Beast, which offered some measure of redemption after Dying Light 2’s reception. However, if you’ve wondered about its future, especially after the Restored Land Update, studio founder and CEO Paweł Marchewka said “substantial new content” isn’t currently planned.
In a recent Discord AMA, he revealed that the title is “complete” and “that’s how players should approach it – much like Dying Light 1 is today. We’re not planning substantial new content for it.”
While this may be somewhat surprising considering the support that Dying Light 1 and 2 received, it seems The Beast was “planned as a complete, self-contained game from the start. We didn’t make a long-term support commitment, but we still added content after release, including the free Restored Land mode.”
Support for Dying Light 2 Stay Human continues, but Marchewka noted that, “The five-year support model hasn’t worked as well for us as we hoped. We’re an AAA studio. With each new game, we want to deliver an unforgettable experience and push the boundaries of what games can do.
“Supporting existing games for years with smaller teams can seriously disrupt work on new projects. At the same time, players expect frequent, substantial, high-quality updates – sometimes several times a month, and usually for free. With limited resources, we can end up disrupting production and still disappointing players.” As for long-term support on Dying Light 2, fans should expect a focus on user-generated content (including maps and mods) and new game modes.
Of course, Techland is working on its next project, but as for the setting, tone and direction, as asked by one user, such details are “still taking shape, and even things we’ve agreed on today may change before release. I’d love to share more, but we need a little more time,” he said.
Dying Light: The Beast is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It received strong critical acclaim at launch (check out our review) and reportedly sold more than 1.5 million copies as of late October 2025. The studio never officially announced sales figures, but released several updates, including New Game+ and Legend Levels. Unfortunately, it also had to cancel the PS4 and Xbox One versions due to hardware constraints.
