Dying Light: The Beast’s Story is 20 Hours Long, Side Content is Another 20-30 Hours, Says Techland

"I think we are very competitive compared to basically anything that's there on the market," says franchise director Tymon Smektala.

Dying Light The Beast

Techland is no stranger to lengthy experiences – Dying Light 2 Stay Human required at least 20 hours to finish its main story, which could hit 80 hours including the side content. Dying Light: The Beast isn’t nearly as ambitious, but 20 hours is still the sweet spot for the story, according to franchise director Tymon Smektala.

However, he also confirmed that “the additional stuff”, including side activities, constitutes “at least another 20, 30 hours.” “I think we are very competitive compared to basically anything that’s there on the market. Just like AAA [games], we really want this to be a game with a presence. It grew a lot over the last number of months [and] I think it deserves that,” he told GamesRadar.

It makes sense given that the developer is approaching Dying Light: The Beast as essentially Dying Light 3. It admittedly began with a “slightly smaller ambition,” but the idea of the original game’s protagonist, Kyle Crane, returning excited the team in terms of what it could deliver.

Dying Light: The Beast launches on August 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and later this year for PS4 and Xbox One. Set in Castor Woods, it sees Crane escaping from years-long confinement to exact revenge on the mysterious Baron. While possessing infected-like abilities, he still needs to seek shelter when it gets dark. Check out more extensive gameplay here.
