Fallout TV Show Was Told to Exclude Certain Elements “Because We’re Doing That in Fallout 5,” Says Todd Howard

Howard also notes the show "wasn’t the translation of an existing story. It was, what would the next thing be? It just happens to be a TV show."

Though Bethesda offers post-launch support on Starfield and works on The Elder Scrolls 6 in the background, it also has Fallout 5. It’s launching sometime after the next Elder Scrolls, but studio director and executive producer Todd Howard already has some ideas for the game.

So much so that he advised the creators of the upcoming Fallout TV show to avoid certain things since they would be done in Fallout 5. Howard told Den of Geek, “Well, there were some things where I said, ‘Don’t do this because we are going to do that in Fallout 5.'” However, he notes that the show is working hard to tell an original story of sorts.

“It wasn’t the translation of an existing story. It was, what would the next thing be? It just happens to be a TV show.” While it may seem farfetched that Howard has Fallout 5 in mind, especially when it’s so far out, remember that Starfield had around eight years of development time. It’s entirely possible, though it will be a long while before we know what any of those ideas could be.

The Fallout TV show premieres on April 11th on Amazon Prime. In the meantime, Bethesda is working on updates for Starfield, the latest recently entering Steam Beta, and a paid expansion, Shattered Space, out this year. It’s also working on an update to Fallout 4 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
