Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – Things to Do After Finishing the Game

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a game of staggering quote, to the extent that even finishing its main story can easily take upwards of 50-60 hours (and even that might be a conservative estimate). Even when you’re done with the game, in fact, there’s still plenty more left to do that you can dive into to drive that play time higher still. Here, we’re going to talk about a few things that you can (and should) do in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth once the credits have rolled.

NOTE: There are spoilers ahead for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

CHAPTER SELECT

Similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth opens up a Chapter Select option after you finish the game, which means you can go back to any of the game’s fourteen chapters at your leisure. This also works as New Game Plus, in the sense that all of your progression is carried over when moving from chapter to chapter. For those who want to continue exploring the world or replay some of the game’s best sequences, set pieces, and boss fights, Chapter Select is an excellent tool.

HARD MODE

Though Easy, Normal, and Dynamic are the only difficulty options available to you at the beginning of the game, once you’ve finished the story, Hard mode is unlocked as well, which is something else Remake did in 2020. Owing to its very nature, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like Rebirth’s combat and want to keep mastering its many layers, Hard mode is something of a no-brainer. Not only do older battles become significantly more challenging, new fights become available on this difficulty as well (more on that in a bit).

GOLD SAUCER SCENES

How Cloud’s relationships with each of the party members are faring determines which one of them he goes on a night out in Gold Saucer with in chapters 8 and 12, and though the choices you make throughout your journey, kind of lock you into those scenes, once you’ve finished the game, you can experience all possible options. Whether you want to spend your time in the Saucer with Aerith, Tifa, Barret, Yuffie, Red XIII, or as part of a larger group with Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth lets you replay all versions those two sequences after you’ve finished the story.

LINGERING SIDE ACTIVITIES

Given just how much there is to do in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and how many side quests and optional activities the game keeps throwing your way right until the end, it’s very possible that you’ll still have plenty of content left to clean up after the credits have rolled. Our recommendation? Go ahead and do that! The optional content in Rebirth is ridiculously fun, so go ahead and take on ay side quests you haven’t done yet, activate all Remnawave Towers, find all Summon Crystals and Lifesprings, wrap up all the Protorelic Quests, and just keep racking up World Intel for Chadley in general.

CHOCOBO REST STOPS

One of the smaller-scale side activities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is repairing chocobo rest stops, to the extent that broken rest stops don’t even show up anywhere on the map or in your guest log. There are a fair few of them out there in all regions of the open world, however, with each serving as a fast travel point and a place to rest on a bench and restore your health and MP. Of course, chances are you’re going to find a large number of them organically while you’re exploring anyway, but by that same token, depending on how much you explored (or didn’t explore), there might be many that you haven’t found even after having finished the game.

PIRATE KING’S TREASURE

The Pirate King’s treasure hunt opens up at the beginning of chapter 12, and given how close that is to the end of the game, there’s a good chance that some players will just skip it and stick with the main story. Once the story is done though, you should definitely go back and get that treasure, because the reward is well worth it. Once you have all four pieces, you can then craft the Corsair’s Compass, an incredibly useful accessory that lets you more easily find rare materials when exploring Meridian Ocean. Speaking of which…

EXPLORE THE OCEAN

The Meridian Ocean is the seventh and final biome of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s open world that we visit in our journey, but again, given how late in the story it opens up, there’s a good chance that several players won’t have explored it too much. It’s definitely worth it, however, and not just because it houses the Pirate King’s treasure hunt. There are rare materials to find, small islands scattered throughout the ocean that can be explored, and of course, this is also the only place where you can pilot the Tiny Bronco (not not as an airship- we’re going to have to wait until Part 3 to do that).

MINIGAMES

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an absolute treasure trove of minigames, with over 30 of them crammed into the entirety of the experience. That you’ll be engaging with a good number of them even as you’re playing through the main story is all but guaranteed, but there’s plenty to do on this front even after rolling the credits. If you’re looking for some varied, bit sized fun, our recommendation is to get new high scores on minigames, try out their harder variants, and win all the rewards they have on offer. That should be a good few handful of hours of gameplay right there.

HIT LEVEL CAP

The majority of players will be finishing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with their characters at somewhere between levels 45 and 50, but the level cap in this game goes all the way up to 70, which, of course, is essentially an invitation to dive further in and keep powering up your party. Once you’ve completed the story, the amount of XP and AP gained from combat also increases significantly, so grinding and leveling up is a faster and more rewarding process than you might think.

FILL UP JOHNNY’S TREASURE TROVE

Finishing Johnny’s side quest in Costa del Sol opens up Johnny’s Treasure Trove, a museum in his revamped shack that you fill up with collectibles found throughout the game. There’s 88 of them to collect, many of which are easily missable and can require going back to earlier chapters using Chapter Select. Finding all collectibles for Johnny’s Treasure Trove will not only unlock a Trophy, it’ll also net you with sheet music for the iconic Sephiroth theme, One-Winged Angel, to play on a piano.

MUSCLEHEAD COLOSSEUM

The Musclehead Colosseum, which is essentially a battle arena, opens up after you hit chapter 8, and though there’s nothing stopping you from taking on its challenges as soon as it becomes available, there’s several in there that can be devilishly challenging, which means coming back to them in the post-game might actually be the way to go. Finish the story, level up your characters, finetune your builds, and come back to the Golden Saucer after the story is done for a much better shot at taking on the Colosseum’s more brutal challenges.

COMBAT SIMULATOR

Chadley’s combat simulator is likely a side activity that you’ll be going back to throughout your time with the game, but even if you’ve wrapped up all of its challenges by the time the story is done (and if you haven’t, we recommend doing so), there’s still no shortage of reasons to return. Not only do you unlock new and much more challenges in the post-game, you can also gain the ability to play as Zack or Sephiroth.

BENCH CLOUD

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does a great job of giving you plenty of time in control of each character in its cast, even if you yourself aren’t swapping people in and out of your party too much. After you finish the story, however, you can take that even further and remove Cloud from the lineup. To put him on the bench, after finishing the story, you can do so as you would with any other character in the Combat Settings menu.
