Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has been working with the same team over the course of the first two games, as well as the upcoming Part 3, and he doesn’t want this to change after the trilogy concludes. In an interview with GamesRadar, Hamaguchi spoke about the future of the development team after it wraps up the trilogy.

“I think once we have got out the third game in the series, and hopefully it’s a big success. We’ll definitely move on to something else, and it’d be great to see what that team that we’ve managed to build up together produces. I don’t know if it’s the right way of talking about it, but the bonds, the relationship between the team has definitely improved a lot and strengthened that team.”

As for what this next project will be, he doesn’t really know. He has said that it could be yet another project in the larger Final Fantasy franchise, or it could even be a completely new IP. Regardless of what this project ends up being, however, Hamaguchi is confident that fans of the Remake trilogy will want to look forward to the next thing produced by the team.

“I can’t say at this point what that’s going to be, whether it’s going to be a completely new game, completely new IP, whether it’s gonna be something new within the Final Fantasy series, but I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “I think fans who’ve seen what our work has been on the Remake series, the three games, will really look forward to this exciting, new gameplay experience. What we work on after that, I’m very much looking forward to working on that myself as well.”

The team is currently hard at work on the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, and is also working on bringing the first entry – Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade – to Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026. While the upcoming release will feature plenty of new features that will allow for more accessibility options for players, Hamaguchi has also been talking about what the third game might entail.

Earlier this month, he had spoken about how Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will offer a new gameplay experience. Noting that the first part focused on telling a story through linear progression and the second game gave players a large open world to explore, the third part will also have something new.

“The first instalment featured story-driven progression, the second part expanded upon that with an open-world design that offered greater player freedom,” said Hamaguchi at the Brasil Game Show 2025 earlier this month. “Building upon the second part, the third part is also being created to deliver players a new gaming experience, so please look forward to it.”
