Final Fantasy Spin-off for PS5 is Not “High-End”, Comparable to NieR: Automata – Rumor

Insider Navtra says the title is certainly "Souls-inspired" but not exactly what one would imagine when hearing "Souls-like Final Fantasy."

If all of the rumors surrounding titles like Elden Ring weren’t enough, there’s a Final Fantasy Souls-like spin-off reportedly in the works at Team Ninja. The PS5-exclusive title will apparently be revealed at E3 2021 with a demo releasing this Summer. And while the development team’s credentials could certainly lend to a Souls-like title, insider and leaker Navtra says it’s not quite what one would imagine..

On ResetEra, Navtra clarified whether the title was a Souls-like or not, stating that, “It’s tricky. It’s certainly Souls-inspired, but it’s not exactly what you’d imagine when you hear ‘Souls-like Final Fantasy‘.” In a separate post, she noted that the reveal “shouldn’t be far away” which gives further credence to an E3 2021 appearance. Interestingly, it was noted the game isn’t “high-end” which seemingly refers to its production values.

“It’s not high-end (think NieR: Automata or a bit higher) so temper your expectations, but it’s something that many could get really into, at least conceptually.” We’ll have to wait for more details in the meantime. E3 2021 is slated to run from June 12th to 15th with companies like Microsoft and Bethesda (confirmed to have a joint showcase) participating along with Square Enix, Ubisoft, and more.

Team Ninja recently wrapped up work on Nioh 2 which released for PC and PS5 this past February. Director Fumihiko Yasuda said the series has reached a “resting point” and that several other projects would begin “full-scale development” this year.
