It wouldn’t be an Xbox @ Gamescom Broadcast without the company highlighting its biggest exclusives, especially with The Coalition’s Gears of War: E-Day receiving a sick new story trailer. New campaign gameplay debuted, set around Act 2, where Marcus and Bravo Squad storm a bridge to take it back from the Locust.
Battles rage across Kalona, but in this sequence, you’ll move up, navigate cover and even help out fellow COG by flanking some Locust snipers. That involves climbing some trucks, but the vantage point is immaculate.
At another point, you’ll fight enemies who rush the bridge. Though it’s a more linear mission overall, others offer different ways to approach situations. The world opens up, and even though you have a main objective, other city blocks have their own conflicts. Take on the side content, and even more mods and collectibles become available as rewards.
Perhaps the biggest highlight is the Boomer, which is absolutely massive at nine feet. Obviously it’s larger than previous titles, introducing “fun ways” for him to enter the fight. The Boomshot is also massive – hence the Heavy Boomshot name – and it’s more like a rocket launcher.
Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. For the latter, expect 21:9 support, extensive mouse-and-keyboard rebindings, uncapped framerates, and more. That’s on top of support for Nanite and RTX Mega Geometry.
