While Horde Siege is where many will likely spend their time in Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition has plenty to offer the more competitive-minded players. Versus returns with a focus on 4v4 matches, and launches with four core modes and six maps.
Returning modes include Team Deathmatch, where each team has a set number of lives and must deplete the other’s, and Conquest, a new version of King of the Hill where the scoring zone remains active rather than spawning elsewhere. The new modes are Demolition, where each team takes turns planting and defusing bombs, and Crucible, which involves carrying a Power Core in a zone to accrue points. The Coalition also promises limited-time modes post-launch, including Trick or Treat during Halloween.
Depending on how competitive you want to be, Versus offers Social and Ranked playlists. The latter offers placement matches, skill ratings, and penalties for quitting, while the former is more relaxed and even includes options for taking on bots. Of course, if you want to learn the ropes, Boot Camp is a good place to start. Combat Training is more involved, as you essentially practice on a multiplayer map and engage in smaller battles. It even supports co-op for up to four players.
The multiplayer beta begins on August 6th for pre-orders and ends on August 10th, but everyone can try it out from August 13th to 17th. Stay tuned for more details on Gears of War: E-Day en route to its October 6th launch.
