The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) recently announced that its video game actors are going on strike, with discussions with major game publishers over the use of generative AI having stalled between the two parties. As is the case with most similar strikes, it’s likely that several affected games are going to be hit with delays (unless the union and game publishers can come to a swift resolution)- though it seems Grand Theft Auto 6 isn’t going to be one of them.

In a statement provided to Kotaku, a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is “exempt” from the strike. Though its parent company, Take-Two Interactive is included in the list of publishers the union is striking against, GTA 6 is not impacted, which means actors part of the guild can continue to work on the game in spite of the strike.

Additionally, here’s what SAG-AFTRA’s official database has to say about the game: “While not struck, this game is produced by a struck company. If you have been engaged under a daily contract for this game, you can show solidarity with your fellow union members by choosing not to sign new contracts on the game. However, you may work on the game and will not be disciplined for doing so.”

Grand Theft Auto 6 is due out fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games has yet to reveal details on the game’s cast of actors.
