It’s no secret that Grand Theft Auto 6’s Extended Look was a huge success for Netflix, though streaming platforms like Twitch also benefited (and even faced heavy server load). While there’s no doubt that Rockstar is working with content creators for more coverage, the craze could become even bigger in 2027 when Grand Theft Auto Online 2 seemingly launches.
This is according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who told Bloomberg, “We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
Of course, he doesn’t specifically call it GTA Online 2, but then again, Rockstar has yet to officially announce it. Reports indicate that the developer, alongside parent company Take-Two Interactive, is keeping the focus on single-player and allegedly doesn’t plan to talk about the next GTA Online “anytime soon,” per Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. Rockstar has since confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 won’t feature any monetization.
If Clancy is correct, we may hear more about multiplayer sometime in the new year, once the fiscal quarter is over and Take-Two can proudly tout revenue for the current game. Until then, GTA 6 launches on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. You can also pick up the album on vinyl and CD on the same day for $19.98 – a small win for physical collectors, if nothing else. Check out the artists involved here.
