GTA V's online component or a brand new title?

Rockstar Games recently posted a new teaser image, announcing the reveal of Grand Theft Auto Online on August 15th. And that’s it really.

Of course, there are plenty of questions to be had: Is this the online component of Grand Theft Auto V? Is it a completely separate experience which is meant to function as a true, persistent MMO game for the series? Heck, could it even be free to play (yeah, right)?

We don’t know for sure but the safest bet is on it being the main online mode for GTA V, since Rockstar stated during a trailer reveal that it would be showing off online gameplay footage in the coming months. The footage that was teased, showcasing players in aircraft, just flying around in Los Santos, indicates as much.

Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V is slated to release on September 17th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and will be published by Take Two Interactive.
