With server issues resolved in Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios has been going full throttle with new content and teases. It recently implemented Planetary Hazards like meteor showers, the EX-45 Patriot Exosuit and a new Premium Warbond, Cutting Edge. However, there have also been teases of flying Terminids and, more recently, mysterious blue lasers.

Players have reported seeing these lasers during combat and sometimes even dying from them. On Twitter, studio CEO Johan Pilestedt stated, “Blue beams aren’t real, it can’t hurt you.” A new enemy faction could enter the fray soon, and based on datamining, it could be the Illuminate.

The Illuminate were in Helldivers 1 and possessed powerful weapons of mass destruction. Despite their absence in the sequel’s launch, they’re known for existing for thousands of years. Time will tell what new threats they pose to Super Earth (and why they’re surreptitiously attacking players).

Helldivers 2 is available for PS5 and PC. It’s estimated to have sold over eight million copies, per TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz. Check out our review here.
