Helldivers 2 has turned out to be something of an anomaly, not only because it’s become a far bigger success than Sony or developer Arrowhead Game Studios had anticipated, but also because it’s selling at a rate that is unprecedented for the overwhelming majority of major new releases.
Taking to Twitter, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella recently revealed that Helldivers 2’s sales in the US went up once again in the game’s third week, just as they did in the week prior. The game has also enjoyed similar sales increases in the UK.
Typically, games tend to see their strongest their strongest sales upon launch, with numbers tapering off week after week afterwards, which means Helldivers 2’s inverse decay, as Piscatella puts it, is rare to see, at the very least.
Sony has yet to provide official sales numbers for the co-op first-person shooter, but Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt suggested last week that it had sold at least close to 3 million copies– though that number is likely higher by now.
Arrowhead is currently at work on its expanded post-launch plans for Helldivers 2, and we’ve already been seeing bits and pieces of it in the game, with mechs and vehicles seemingly on the verge of being added. Recent datamining leaks have suggested that the Illuminate faction from the first game is also on the way.
Helldivers II US sales went up yet again during its 3rd week in market.
An honest-to-goodness inverse decay curve so far.
Feel like Steve Irwin sighting a rare bird or something. Rare and amazing, in an Australian accent even.
